Artist Statement

Art is my passion and heals my wounded parts. It speaks to my inner being. All three pieces are drawings from personal studies using charcoal, colored pencils, markers, and pastels on Strathmore Drawing paper.

Marveller represents the wonderer and admiration in all of us. Like myself she is a symbol of a deep thinker and marveller of all things of this world and the next.

Natural Beauty is a wonderment of the many colors in what one might considered by some as average foliage. It speaks to the beauty of creation even through its branches.

Playful with Flowers a play on giving one their flowers while they are still alive from one beautiful creature to another.

Artist Statement

My work explores the imperfections and quiet commonalities that bind us as human beings. Through figurative sculpture, I aim to capture fleeting moments such as an expression, a posture, or a mood. These subtle details invite the viewer to recognize something familiar and perhaps imagine a story of their own. I work primarily with polymer clay and found objects, materials that feel both humble and deeply expressive.

I spent my entire childhood in Duncanville, graduated from Duncanville High School, and still have family that lives in Duncanville.

Most of my current work is a quiet meditation on the intrinsic worth of the ordinary, mundane, or undervalued. I center around themes of resilience, refuge and quiet strength. I am drawn to the Duncanville arts community because I am a Duncanville resident myself, and I would love to see our town benefit from the very great gift that art and beauty can bring to a group of people.

We moved to Duncanville over 30 years ago settling in the Red Bird edition. We immediately fell in love with the incredible landscape...completely surrounded by forest...literally living in the trees on the side of a hill looking down on a small creek. Little did we know then that our lives and our art would forever be changed. Our surroundings in Duncanville have been a daily inspiration...sleet, snow, hail, rainstorms, bobcats, fox, coyote, hawks, owls, kites...everyday is a new adventure...priceless.

I began watercolor painting during COVID watching you-tube videos and have really enjoyed it. When I heard about Ellafair, I thought it would be a challenge as well as an opportunity to learn from others with similar interests. The Arts in Duncanville are growing and I wanted to be part of the growth.

I am an artist and naturalist that travels to various preserves to do conservation work and create art. I am inspired by the natural world around me, and spend a lot of time at Duncanville's Charles F. Ladd preserve. I am fascinated with the abundance of diversity in the local flora and fauna of Duncanville, and this translates directly to my choice of subject matter in my work.

Artist Statement

I am interested in collapsing the boundaries between painting, photography, textiles and sculpture. I work often on silk organza with acrylic, tea & pencil crayon on mdf shaped lightweight stretchers. Shapes are based on inverted handheld fan shapes and others reference vessels and artifacts. Fragility, transparency and the discarded are continuing themes. My career as an art restorer/conservator has influenced my artwork in subtle ways. I am always seeking new experiences through experimentation in hopes of finding moments of magic.

My husband and I are longtime Duncanville residents. The minute we happened upon the hilly landscape where our home is located we were sold on Duncanville. It felt like a vacation home, a place to renew oneself everyday, with wonderful neighbors, birds of prey and wildlife that return every year to visit. We have been excited to meet new artists and see the arts community grow.

I have enjoyed all types of art for decades, and I’ve taken many classes and workshops all over the United States with well-known artist. Most of my paintings are inspired by my love of nature. I’ve been blessed to travel all over the world and love, taking photographs of beautiful scenery, animals, flowers and people. Often I use my photographs as a reference for my paintings. My husband and I have lived in Duncanville since 1976 and I was one of the founders of the Duncanville regional arts Association.
